The living room and dining room were created when Matuschka removed two small bedrooms and the dark narrow hallway that separated them.
The imported lights from Italy combined with curving all corners, rounding off any right angles and cutting 'interior windows' between rooms--helped to produce an outdoors effect as if one was stepping into a court yard when they entered Matuschka's apartment.
The newly created arches were inlaid with stones, marble and brick. Some walls were covered in Stucco.

Special effects painting job based on the Rudolph Steiner method.

Matuschka removed several walls and doorways to create the dining room which was once a small bedroom off the old kitchen. To repair the gaps that were created in the floors and ceilings when walls were removed, the artist chose to use natural materials to patch the floor instead of relaying one, and built arches instead of dropping a new ceiling.

The tin/stucco arch pictured in the last photograph now takes the place of a once bulky old plaster wall. All corners and right angles were curved and tiles, bricks and stones were sunk into the stucco and new plaster. All wood removed from the original apartment was recycled and reconfigured.

In several sections of this room, the original brick was exposed.
